We wanted something that was festive for a child and yet focused on the story behind Easter. He is wounded and hiding. Each "lesson" is just two pages with good graphics and takes about 20 minutes of your time. I though he was pushing it a little when he suggested Lizzie Borden had a lesbian lover. The chapters are very well organized and the text is written in clear plain english. As an experienced editor, Hoffman knows she has to work to win our sympathy, so she emphasizes her emotional pain, yet she might have shown more awareness of the difficulties for those without family support and financial resources. Though she was close to her family, she didn't share the doctor's diagnosis with them for several months. Then in 1917 everything changed.

The ten year old Sofka witnessed the February Revolution in St. Reeves is a great author for a younger people as well.. Helpful, wonderful and surprising book.. After the war Sofka continued her wayward life. She's petite and funny.
